My role at the Creative Quarter Company is very varied and busy. I liaise and connect with a lot of people across a huge variety of businesses in Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and the whole of the UK to amplify the CQ's voice and increase our impact. I work with partner organisations to ensure we have funding approved for programmes and projects that encourage and support start-up, early growth and scaling up of creative and digital businesses in Nottingham. I work alongside the employability teams at Nottingham’s academic institutions to ensure that opportunities for students and graduates to gain work experience and find employment in creative and digital businesses are plentiful.
My favourite par of working for the CQ is the variety of people I meet and the huge depth of work that is taking place in and around the creative and digital industries in the East Midlands and beyond. I communicate on a regular basis with residents, business owners, our funders and partners across Nottingham. I also have a role nationally, making sure the developments in our local creative economy are part of a wider conversation thanks to my position on the UK Council for Creative UK, and I share knowledge with other creative economic development projects in Sheffield, Coventry, York and beyond. And after all of that, I can often be found helping with practical matters in the CQ Office, like putting up the Christmas lights (I’m the tallest staff member!) and moving PA systems to help set up for events.
I manage the financial and admin processes for CQ and the performance of our projects -anything in the business that requires a spreadsheet, a process or guidelines, I’m your lady. I oversee the office systems, the design and maintenance of the day-to-day financial management systems, the events at Sneinton Market and any student placements or projects. I also support the CEO with advocacy for the Creative Quarter and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and partners.
My favourite part of the job is working with artists, creatives and independents is very close to my heart, as is my home in Nottingham. To get to support all those things in one job is perfect for me. All the places I love to eat, drink and do are in the CQ geography, so it’s full circle for me. I also love being a part of the CQ team, who all care about the same things and work hard to make things happen.
If something needs communicating publicly, I’m behind it! That means social media, our website, our regular email newsletters and any advertising or press releases around the Creative Quarter or The Big House activity. My average day always involves a lot of words, and finding ways to communicate across different platforms to different audiences. I have two websites and eight social media channels to manage across The Big House and the Creative Quarter. I also work with external suppliers to deliver marketing materials, from the CQ banners hanging in Sneinton Market to the video showcases we produce for The Big House. All of that content starts and finishes on my desk.
I love the passion and the camaraderie within the team here. We all care a lot about what happens within the creative community and around the CQ locality, and we want to make sure everyone feels a part of it. We’re advocates for the businesses here and we fight to amplify the stories and put across the issues that our community needs addressed.
