Nottingham’s Confetti Institute of Creative Technologies is launching a new three-year degree - a BSc (Hons) Esports Production this September.
Learn NewsConfetti, part of the multi-award-winning Nottingham Trent University, has become one of only a handful of universities offering a degree in the rapidly developing sector. The degree specialises in the live production and broadcasting technology of esports events, both from within Confetti’s own world-class venue Metronome and through online delivery.
With official endorsement from the British Esports Association and backing from Amazon’s global streaming platform Twitch, the degree capitalises on Confetti’s specialisms in creative industry education.
CEO of Confetti, Craig Chettle MBE, is pleased that Confetti is a part of the growing esports industry within the UK.
“We believe now is the right time to launch this degree – it capitalises on Confetti’s existing expertise in gaming, live and technical events, broadcasting and creative entrepreneurship and it will offer a mix of theory and practice with real-life work-based-learning at the heart of the course,” Craig said. The global esports market is experiencing huge growth and developments in technology such as 5G, presenting opportunities to transform the way we create and consume content. This degree will equip graduates with a range of skills, acquired in an industry setting and endorsed by industry. We believe this new degree puts us at the forefront of esports education and sets an ambition for Nottingham to become an emerging UK centre for esports.”
The Vice Chancellor of Nottingham Trent University, Professor Edward Peck, commented:
“This is NTU at its best; working with industry partners to extend our award winning teaching and learning to a growth industry where students and employers both want the skills this programme will provide.”
British Esports Association chair, Andy Payne OBE, added:
“We are so delighted to see top-class educational institutes such as Confetti getting involved in the esports education space, and are thrilled to be partnering with them for this degree course. We’re sure students will really benefit from this and are looking forward to seeing how they contribute to the esports and digital industries in the future.”
Mark ‘Garvey’ Candella, Director of Student and Education Programmes at global streaming platform Twitch, said:
““The whole set-up at Confetti has impressed me! We are – and I am – really excited to work with them going forward as part of the project to bring esports ‘alive’ in the UK.””
