Broadway Cinema in Hockley has now completed a £390,000 refurbishment of its screens, including an update of the seating in the world-famous Paul Smith Screen 4 which will be back in use from this weekend as part of its soft relaunch.
After nearly two months running at limited capacity, during which 268 of the outgoing seats were donated to the Nottingham Arts Theatre and a number have been purchased by customers looking to support Broadway’s fundraising campaign, Broadway now has its full complement of seats ready for the busy autumn/winter period.
Broadway CEO Steve Mapp is looking forward to welcoming both new and returning audience members to enjoy improved comfort levels, “We’re thankful to customers for being patient whilst we renovated our screens. The new Screen 1 and 2 have been open for the past few weeks and the audience feedback has been really positive with many comments praising the increased comfort levels. We hope this fantastic feedback continues with Screen 4.”

The Paul Smith seats have also been upholstered in the “Big Stripe” design seen across a number of the legendary Nottingham-born designer’s modern furniture pieces. Steve Mapp added: “As a keen supporter of Broadway over the years, it was important that we retained the Paul Smith aesthetic We think the audience will enjoy the new look and feel of the space and enjoy our screening programme in the comfort they’ve come to expect from us.”
Broadway’s renovation project has also included an upgrade to 7.1 sound, installation of new hearing loops and the addition of 4K projection in both Screen 1 and Screen 2.
Marketing and Communications Director Stewart Terry added, “We’re excited to have all our screens back up and running, offering one of the best audio-visual and comfort experiences around. The renovation is a fantastic thing for film lovers across Nottingham and beyond as we continue to screen the most diverse programme in the city.”
Film fans who are interested in owning a piece of Broadway can still purchase the outgoing Screen 2 seats at a reduced rate of £99, with the proceeds going towards the Go Beyond the Reel campaign which looks to increase access to cinema and inspire a lifelong love of film.
