After its enforced closure due to Covid-19 on Tuesday 17 March, Broadway Cinema in Hockley plans on re-opening the doors and firing up the projectors again on Friday 25 September.
Life AnnouncementsPrior to lockdown, Broadway was experiencing one of the most successful periods in its 30- year history with award-winning hits such as 1917 and independent films like The Peanut Butter Falcon bringing in thousands of film lovers from across Nottingham and beyond.
Broadway wishes to thank those patrons that have supported the cinema over the past six months, either by donating the price of a ticket, purchasing a seat dedication plaque or by streaming a new release via their website. Steve Mapp looks forward to repaying that support over the coming months
“We want our customers to be comfortable and safe when walking into Broadway and we’ve taken a lot of precautions across the venue to make this the case. This includes introducing allocated seating, reducing the capacity in our screens, one-way systems across the venue, installing antibacterial wash stations, adjusting our air conditioning setup and mask wearing in the venue. Having our iconic venue sat empty for so long has been tough, but now we can’t wait to welcome audiences back and show them why experiencing film on the big screen cannot be beaten.”
Steve Mapp, CEO of BroadwayBroadway is now in its 30th year but does not intend on looking back. The long-planned refurbishment of their Cafébar, Mezz Bar, toilets and foyer will begin in September, with a plan to re-open fully in time for Christmas. Steve Mapp is looking forward to getting the project up and running with £500K secured funding from Arts Council England almost a year ago. Delaying the project until 2021 would have meant closing the venue at a time when we would be trying to re-establish ourselves after this period of enforced closure. With that in mind, it made sense to close the Cafébar and get the work completed as soon as possible.
Broadway Cinema will re-open on Friday 25 September. The opening film programme will be available here. Upon re-opening, Broadway will initially operate on reduced opening times of Wednesday to Sunday but will still be screening newly released films as well as some that audiences may have missed over lockdown.
In October, Broadway will also be a partner venue for the 2020 BFI London Film Festival (LFF) in partnership with American Express and will be welcoming back the annual Mayhem Film Festival for another edition
