Cultivating Peace

Mon 3rd Apr 2017

Nottingham has a long history of cultivating Peace. From Harry Wheatcroft, a conscientious objector turned prize rose grower.

Life News

“It is with Harry Wheatcroft in mind that we welcome Michael Mears and his one-man play to Nottingham. Some 16,600 conscientious objectors are listed on the First World War national database hosted by the Imperial War Museum. Some of these men lived in the Nottingham area, but the numbers are greater in Lancashire and elsewhere. Their courageous stand gradually receives more recognition. Michael’s compelling and inspiring play is a striking way to spread the word, as we approach 15 May, which is International Conscientious Objectors’ Day.”

Tony Simpson of the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation
