Green Hustle are holding a free outdoor festival down at Sneinton Market Avenues and the surrounding area on Saturday 5 June, and you’re invited.
Life FestivalsAfter the success of 2020’s digital launch, Hockley Hustle’s green and environmentally friendly sister festival Green Hustle returns for a LIVE event on Saturday 5 June, 10am - 4pm. Featuring collaborations with local artists, organisations and community groups, Green Hustle will bring a diverse and intriguing programme to the most creatively vibrant corner Nottingham city centre.
Adam Pickering, Green Hustle Director comments:
“After launching Green Hustle as a virtual festival in September 2020, we're super excited to meet our growing online audience in person. We've really tried to reach out beyond the usual eco-crowd - it's a celebration of diverse, accessible and inspiring approaches to greening our world and growing resilient communities. We hope to plant a few seeds and give our audience the tools and inspiration to grow their green ambitions”
Expect a world of activities, talks, and performances including Nottinghams’ newest poetry collective GOBS Collective performing spoken-word on the main stage throughout the day, St Ann’s Allotments-based permaculture pros EcoWorks creating a piece of living street furniture, cosmo-local crafty creatives Hackspace bringing a 3D printer and making gear, Sneinton art gallery and studios Backlit host a sunflower-growing competition, Skate Nottingham running free skate lessons for kids on King Edward’s Park, and Reach Out will be providing boxing lessons, pedal powered social smoothies from Pulp Friction, and multi-disciplinary art duo INSTAR will be bringing their thought provoking Infinity Forest.
On the talks front, guests such as Saziso Phiri from City Arts will be in conversation with Christine Katerere, The Pythian Club’s Ben Rosser will be talking about TPC’s work in building young people's confidence in St Ann’s, and the millennial-driven Next Gen movement of peaceful protests will be talking activism, community and unity. There’ll be much more besides including DJs and acoustic performances, as well as food from the award-winning Nottingham Street Food Club and a wealth of sustainable independent business stalls to peruse.
Tamily Cookson, CEO of Creative Quarter Nottingham said:
“After the success of the online festival last year, it’s great to see Green Hustle expand its offering this summer with a physical presence in the Creative Quarter at Sneinton Market and King Edward Park. Placing community and creativity at the heart of the fight to protect our environment is one that chimes not only with the city’s plans to be carbon neutral by 2028, but really connects with Nottingham’s identity as a place full of great ideas and good people working together. The Creative Quarter is proud to support the festival and see it brought to an in-person audience as well as a digital one this year.”
The event is free to attend, but entry into The Avenues area will be limited to 50% capacity in line with government rules, so please arrive early to guarantee entry. On the day, Green Hustle's highest concern is safety so please socialise in smaller groups of six within the festival site, giving everyone plenty of space to move around.
If you can’t attend in person for whatever reason, don’t worry. Green Hustle will also be streaming live from the festival all day, straight to your screens via the Green Hustle website and social media channels.
