If you don't venture beyond Hockley, you're going to miss out on some great free events taking place on Friday and Saturday night.
Life NewsThe list of Light Night events continue to grow as we approach the weekend, with galleries and arts spaces east of Parliament Street offering an eclectic mix of hands-on workshops, exhibitions and music. Once you've stopped by Sneinton Market, make sure you head over to these other nearby venues to get even more out of your Light Night.
Down at One Thoresby Street, AUTO.LOCUS will be hosting a Light Night gallery launch event that will be running from 8pm until late on Friday, with NTU fine art graduate Elsie Madge, and DJ sets from Asa Hudson and Pussyfoot.
Late Night Light Night sees the Creative Quarter spill over from Sneinton Market into Surface Gallery for music from Megatrain, Cinema Gold and Soul Buggin', from 8pm on Friday.
At Backlit Gallery, join artist Ryan Heath on Saturday from 4pm - 6pm for a weird and wonderful workshop exploring natural worlds and glowing creatures. Play with light, paint and sculpture to create your own luminous landscape to take home.
City Arts, in addition to running two parades starting from Sneinton Market, will be running a series of additional events in their venue. On Friday, drop in between 6pm - 10pm and create your own Light Night installation in Virtual Reality. Using the Google Tilt Brush app, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to an illuminated 3D world. On Saturday the fun starts at 12pm, where a free family-friendly creative workshop will allow people to create lightscapes to illuminate the City Arts building. You'll also be able to access City Arts' secret garden and experience an atmospheric art installation. The artwork was designed and created by young people taking part in their Express Yourself project.
At The Carousel (formerly Nottingham Writers' Studio), Dizzy Ink will be hosting Light Night festivities with an exhibition and live music. From 7pm on Friday, Signita Silina's The Remembered Image exhibition will be soft launched with projections across public facing spaces, before being officially launched on the Saturday night. There will also be a musical performance from Roshan Sabet on both nights, and on Saturday, Pervert Wasp deliver some doom jazz.
If you get through all of that and still have energy to burn, head to The Brickworks from 9pm on Saturday for their Wigflex event, featuring Call Super, Danielle & Young Marco. Tickets available here.
