The Creative Quarter, with the UK Young Artists City Takeover and a whole host of partners, is hosting our second Nottingham Light Night at Sneinton Market Avenues on February 8 with live art and music, projections, street food, several bars, a specially commissioned art installation and much more.
As darkness falls, the Avenues and Plaza will be come to life and an illuminated parade will create a pulsating carnival atmosphere with glowing lanterns, puppets, flamboyant costumes and carnival dancers.
In the City Arts Dome
The first band are on at 5pm. They are called The Face That Boils Itself and they play a sort of woodland folk music that you will be sorry to miss. So get down early.
Our dj for the night is Northern Soul Sarah (and her tambourine).
Between 6 and 8 four artists from the UKYA City Takeover will be centre stage. Get involved!
6 to 6.30 - NTU Saturday Art Club
Stop Motion Animations - Animation shorts created by young participants of Saturday Art Club at Nottingham Trent University.
6.30 to 7 - Dimitris Chimonas & Enact Theatre
One body of work consisting of 13 performances, in 13 different locations around sunset time. Three performers enter and exit a public space and engage in a non-scripted ritual of rhythmical clapping allowing a series of failures, successes and familiar rhythms to unravel.
7 to 7.40 - Diggery & Thomas Thinks
Musician, Thomas Thinks and Animator Josh Leach present an audiovisual experience that will immerse visitors in live projection painting and electronic music.
7.40 - 8 - La Minima Danza - Quiénes
Quiénes is a contemporary dance piece for 3 dancers.
In addition to these performances, UKYA would present international artists/companies who can animate the outdoor spaces and invite participation from visitors.
From 8 til 10 Maximillian will entertain with his light show and our second band PRIMAL are a Nottingham based power trio playing soulful blues rock with howling vocals groovy riffs and pounding drums. Likened to: Led Zep, Rival Sons, Black Keys, Sabbath & Audioslave.
Around the Avenues ...
Primary-based artist Pete Ellis will show for the first time his new work called Three Trugs From Wilko's. Be sure to see it in Unit 8 on Avenue A opposite Neon Raptor.
Curious? will be showcasing their work with EMCAAN, ABC Dance School, City Arts and Youth Group Development in a spectacular illuminated parade around Sneinton Market from 7pm.

- Neon Raptor make great craft ales and serve them fresh from the tank in their tap room
- Blend Coffee Shop is Nottingham's best coffee shop (but you must know that by now)
- Design Junction and Soul and Flare - They'll be getting creative with UV paint and denim
Stonebridge City Farm will have furry animals to pet while they ask you to help their fundraiser.
Local street market stalls will be lining The Avenues, offering all kinds of arts & crafts created by a great selection of Nottingham’s independent businesses including:

City Arts will have all their floors open for a night filled with lots of fun activities; live music, a sonic space in the back garden and the Armchair Gallery for a virtual interaction with an exhibition.
Notts Wildlife Trust will be illuminating their building, running a silent disco with UV face paint and black lights for all the join in on.
Surface Gallery hosts a big chunk of the UKYA City Takeover.
One BC will have an interactive window display and Fox and Grapes will have disco lighting inside their building.
Sneinton Market Square will have an array of craft stalls to browse through too.
The Tuneless Choir will perform at 9pm.
There is so much going on. Wrap up warm and come down to Sneinton Market Avenues for Light Night 2019 nice and early to see Nottingham's cool new place to be shining at its brightest.
