The month-long Sneinton Festival 2018 launched with a Parade and Fun Day last weekend – including dance, music, free fun for all the family and an open top bus!
Life AnnouncementsThe theme of this year’s festival is “Sneinton Stories” and the fun started on Saturday 7 July at The Dales Centre on Sneinton Dale with a Parade and Fun Day including craft activities and face-painting.
The Parade was launched by Nottingham College Dance Troupe and set off from the Dales Centre joined by local school children and an open-top bus (thanks to a partnership with the Nottinghamshire Area Bus Society).
The bus was decorated with banners depicting Sneinton Faces and Green Spaces made by local children and young people from Edale Rise Primary and Nursery School, Nottingham Academy, Sneinton St Stephen’s CofE Primary School, William Booth Primary and Nursery School, Greenway 616 Play Scheme and SEND Project Youth Club. The Parade was also joined by electric vehicles from WEGO Sneinton Bikers cycling group as local people line the pavements to wave the parade as it goes by.
For 2018, Sneinton Festival has teamed up with a number of local artists and creatives to produce parade decorations including Fabritza Design, Curious, Tom Morley - Emotions from Photons. The Sneinton Festival team will also be on hand to collect stories, images and memories from local residents – as part of their Sneinton Stories Project.
The entertainment continued along the route as the Parade met on Trent Lane by Inspire Carnival Dance Troupe and was led to a grand finale in Trickett’s Park, Sneinton – where the Fun Day started.
There were kids’ activities from 12 noon to 6pm featuring games, street play on Trent Lane hosted by Playworks ‘Playing Out’ project and storytelling; plus there was plenty for the grown-ups including fitness workshops, food and drink and live performances from Royale Roots Rockers, Mellonie Page Band, Dave Mooney and Nancy, Alice Lynn, Joanne Lovatt, Marita Metalia, Rainbow Stripes and RED Dance.
To celebrate the start of this year’s Sneinton Festival, there was a Launch Party hosted by The Lord Nelson Pub, with DJ sets from Rizzla, Natural Groover, Cutless, Toy Beats and Junier Ranks.
