Arts venues of all sizes, ranging from Chameleon Arts Cafe up to the Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall were in receipt of money designed to secure their future into 2021.
Life NewsOn Monday 12 October, the Arts Council announced an investment of £257 million in 1,385 venues, theatres, museums and cultural organisations, through the first tranche of the Culture Recovery Fund. Several Nottingham-based organisations were in receipt of funding, coming at a critical time for the industry, many of whom have not been able to stage public events since mid-March.
DHP, who own Rock City and the Bodega, received £908,004, the largest amount awarded to any Nottingham organisation. The Theatre Royal and Royal Concert Hall, who cancelled their pantomime this year, received £851,604. Broadway Cinema, which has recently reopened to the public after a prolonged period of closure, received £419,015. There was relief for smaller independent venues and organisations in the city too; The Chameleon Arts Cafe, known for its intimate, DIY gigs received £77,161 in funding, and Nottingham Arts Theatre received £50,000.
