The Nottingham Mela kicked off with an amazing sold out show with vibrant and highly individual pianist and composer, Zoe Rahman on August 29 with a great performance at Peggy's Skylight, the new jazz bar in Hockley.
Life AnnouncementsThe jazz musician phenomenon, Zoe Rahman performed at a sold out crowd at the new jazzy joint in town, Peggy's Skylight. Rahman's award winning music wowed those that watched her yesterday evening (August 29, 2018) as she kicked things off for this year's Nottingham Mela!
New Art Exchange is celebrating 30 years of Nottingham Mela, their annual celebration of South Asian arts and culture for all the family. Experience spectacular dance, music and family activities, Henna, Mendi, delicious street food and more in venues across Nottingham. The 2018 Mela will be at New Art Exchange, Hockley and the free family day finale will be at the Arboretum Park.
Watch Subhash Viman Gorania and Jyoti Kainth Double Bill. Subhash Viman Gorania will perform two dances. Three bears witness to the stages of human life from birth to enlightening freedom of youth and the inevitability of death.
Born in Birmingham, Jyoti Kainth began her Bharatanatyam dance training at the tender age of 6 under the guidance of her Guru Smt Chitraleka Bolar.
Subhash Viman Gorania and Jyoti Kainth will be showing their wonderful performances at Nottingham Arts Theatre from 7pm, August 30. Book tickets here
Head down to Jam Cafe on 30 August from 9:30pm. Jasmine will be performing a folk style of music set. Jasmine has also previously performed at Nottingham Mela back in 2012!
Mendi, A classically trained tabla player and composer will be bringing sounds of western Asian in his performance with the bands that he'll be performing with.

Vidya Patel and Shammi Pithia present an extraordinary conversation between Kathak dance and live contemporary music. After performing together in the internationally successful About the Elephant, the dance artist and skilled multi-instrumentalist join forces once again in their newest collaboration, Converse. This will be taking place at Nottingham Arts Theatre on Friday 31 August from 7pm. Book tickets here
Join NAE for day four of Nottingham Mela 2018! They'll be hosting free, family friendly events and activities all day, along with storytelling sessions, workshops and more.

Nottingham Arts Mela, in collaboration with Oscar and Rosie's, is delighted to welcome Desi GuitR ist, Aziz Ibrahim, with Dalbir Singh Rattan (tabla) and guests The Tabla Ensemble plus Surangi virtuoso Gurpreet Singh, for an evening of sublime south Asian and contemporary sounds with delicious food. The family fun finale of Nottingham Mela takes place at the beautiful Arboretum Park for a day of celebrations and family-friendly fun.
There will be South Asian street food, mehndi, dance workshops, craft stalls, creative activities for all ages as well as live music and dance performances across the two stages. Plus, a funfair for the little ones. It's free to attend and welcome to all ages.
