Meet The Team! We gave our team a series of short questions to discover more about their role at the Creative Quarter. Here's Hannah, our Finance and Operations Manager.
The CQ BlogHannah Newton, Finance and Operations Manager
A bit about you:
What’s your background?
I have an BA in Fine Art from Norwich University of the Arts and after leaving university worked at See Tickets. I then moved to alt. tickets at DHP Family, where I was part of the administration and ticketing team. I also have a studio at Surface Gallery, which is next door to Sneinton Market Avenues, in the Creative Quarter.
Describe your role at the CQ:
Anything in the business that requires a spreadsheet, a process or guidelines, I’m your lady. I manage the financial and admin processes for CQ and the performance of our projects. I oversee the office systems, the design and maintenance of the day-to-day financial management systems, the events at Sneinton Market and any student placements or projects. I also support the CEO with advocacy for the Creative Quarter and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and partners.
Tell us about a part of your job that people might not realise you do?
How varied it is; ‘operations' covers a whole host of things! Despite it being very process driven I also get to be creative in coming up with project ideas and events. Creative problem-solving is key in a small business!
What is your favourite part of working at the CQ?
Working with artists, creatives and independents is very close to my heart, as is my home in Nottingham. To get to support all those things in one job is perfect for me. All the places I love to eat, drink and do are in the CQ geography, so it’s full circle for me. I also love being a part of the CQ team, who all care about the same things and work hard to make things happen.
What places in the CQ do you love to visit when you’re not in work?
My favourite street in Nottingham is Heathcoat street, it’s such a gem. Jamcafé, U-Canteen, Sexy Mama Loves Spaghetti, a great Chinese store called Oriental Mart, Suede, The Balti House, all right there on one street. 31k does an amazing cocktail and MESA has some of the best food I’ve had in a long time!
Modern urban living in and amongst refurbished lace factories and warehouses. On-trend independent retailers and many bars, restaurants, cafés, galleries, arts cinema and theatres. A buzz in the daytime and a rhythm at night.
Nottingham Trent University, the UK’s University of the Year, has a Creative Quarter campus. Nottingham College is investing £58m in a new skills hub. Confetti is expanding fast. Metronome is open for business and learning.
