Expression project is a unisex streetwear brand with the aim to express a number of messages or thoughts through the clothing. We spoke with Ashliia Williams, the founder that started the brand in June this year to find out more about what she does...
Work ShowcaseThe brands name was originally named Wild Heart, this is something I personally relate to however something wasn't quite sitting right for me and I couldn't put my finger on what that was.
At the time I was going through some tough times and I realised the designs I was looking for was based on my personal emotions or feelings at that present time. It was at that moment I realised it was expression based on how I was feeling and there it came to me the brand name should be Expression, I am going to run a couple of design project to allow others to express how they feel.
I love clean crisp logos that are straight to the point, I had a vision in my head and popped that across to a graphic designer and after a couple of edits we hit the logo design.
There is myself, Ashliia. But in all honesty my team can be very varied. My partner Robert Houghton loves to be hands on wether this is moulding copper in to my clothing rails or photography. I have some amazing family and friends who have agreed to model, they also help promote the brand online via social media. When I have new designs I have a new team working with me, this can include the models or the location owners.
The brand has two collections. The basic collection are generally a front left hand side logo’s t-shirt. The brands second collection is the Rebellion collection that allows full designs on the garments that aim to express through clothing. We also stock baseball caps and tote bags at the moment.
YES, I have a new items available including the Basic Forest, Basic Grey and Basic Pink.
We also have a brand new Rebellion design available that aims to showcase power. Although the brand in unisex the GRL PWR long sleeved t-shirt expresses the message that we are slowly moving forward in society. The GRL PWR garment is not just for females, there are males that are interested in this item as well because they also agree with the message.
My mind set and determination. Expression is also a medicine and escape from every day life. The first six months of the year have been personally challenging for me and my family. I enjoy coming home from the day job to relax, looking at new designs, being creative and planning for future projects. I also love that customers are buying in to the brand, this motivates me more than anything!
Brilliant question. I am enjoying the process and I am enjoying every door that opens along the way for Expression. I would love to have a permanent rail in an independent clothing shop in Nottingham to start with and I would love to secure some more pop up shop locations across the East Midlands.
Oh it is such early days that I don't actually consider myself as a local independent business just right now. I think this will grow with me as the brand grows.
I have a project collaboration with one of Nottingham’s most popular independent business 200 degrees, I can't share too much information on this yet but for sure keep an eye out!
