On average, UK workers spend an entire five years of their life sitting behind their desk.
Work KnowledgeAs such, it makes sense to deck out your office space to make it as comfortable as possible without affecting your productivity. Whether you work from home or in an office, here are some of the essentials that you should include to spruce up your space.
Add Recycling Bins
In addition to your standard trash bin, it’s a good idea to have a recycling bin in your office as well. This makes it easier to recycle cans, bottles, and other materials as you snack throughout the day. Not only is incorporating recycling into your routine a green habit, but it will also send a positive impression when visitors come to call.
Set Out a Candy Bowl
If you have a lot of coworkers or clients dropping by your office, it can also make a good impression if you set out a small dish of candy for your guests. You may also find that difficult individuals are easier to deal with on a full stomach. If you're worried about the temptation of a candy bowl on your desk all day, you can always opt for healthier treats such as fruit, or simply set out sugarfree mints.
Don’t Settle for Less With the Chair
A high-quality office chair can be the difference between waking up sore in the morning versus waking up feeling refreshed and limber. We spend a lot of time sitting in our office chairs, and a poorly constructed one can cause damage to your back and hips over time. It’s a good idea to look for an adjustable chair that you can set to your perfect height, keeping your hips above your knees and your feet flat on the floor. Ensure that it’s at the perfect distance from your desk so you can reach for your office stationery without feeling discomfort. For this reason, you should also look for a chair with built-in lumbar support to protect your lower back.
Install Your Own Lighting
Harsh artificial lighting can put a strain on your eyes and lead to headaches and migraines. If you don’t have windows to let in natural light, you may want to consider installing your own lamps. It’s best to opt for soft lighting, though if you go too soft, it may end up making you sleepy during the day. Dimmer switches allow you to adjust the brightness of the lighting in your office, giving you full control over your work setting.
Invest in an Interactive Whiteboard
While a regular chalk or whiteboard gets the job done, when you’re having a meeting with other people, nothing says convenience like an interactive whiteboard. It allows you to give computer presentations at the same time as jotting down notes for all to see using either an interactive marker or a whiteboard pen.
With all the time we spend in our offices, it pays to make things a little bit more comfortable. By revamping your workspace, you can make your days at the office more enjoyable and more productive. These are just some of the essentials that you can include to turn your office into your dream work area.
