by Works Social
Set-up by freelancers, for freelancers, Works Social is a contemporary coworking community and event space set within a converted Lace Works in the heart of the Lace Market, Nottingham. Across 4 floors, Works Social combines dedicated communal desk space, hot-desking areas, shared facilities and meeting space with chillout areas, a cosy outdoor terrace and an honesty bar. It has been created for independent freelancers that are ready to move out of their home office, remote workers looking for a dedicated desk and small business teams looking for a stepping stone before taking on premises of their own. It aims to cultivate connections, build communities of interest and act as a hub for sharing resources, ideas and talent!
Work ShowcaseTake a look at what we asked Works Social...
Originally our own need (having ourselves juggled the highs and lows of working from home and coffeeshops) which evolved into a desire to create inspirational places for people to work surrounded by a like-minded community.
Works Social is open to all types of freelance, start-up or micro-businesses looking for scalable workspace. Our location in the Creative Quarter lends itself to the creative industries but we already have a broad and complementary mix of members from a range of different industries, we’ve already heard about the acorns of collaborative ideas between our members which is exactly what we hoped the space would inspire.
There are already some great places in Nottingham catering for the flexible worker and as the #worksspacerevolution evolves we hope we will see more spaces pop up or adapt their facilities to suit the variable needs of an increasingly flexible workforce. We found ourselves that not one place can tick all the boxes for all and everyone has their own priorities when it comes to the location, services or facilities that are most important to them in getting their working life balance right. At Works Social, we were guided by our own experience and have tried to develop a range of affordable membership options that are scalable based on a members evolving needs. We’re proud of the investment we’ve made in technology to make sure we are using the latest cloud-based services to streamline members experience including a 24/7 mobile door access, dedicated high speed internet and our community portal that helps members connect and manage their membership and bookings online. Our space is light, airy and full of living green things proven to purify air, reduce sound and promote wellbeing. Sustainability is really important to us too, we run on green energy, use motion censored LED lighting and recycled supplies where possible. We hope we have created a fresh and stimulating space for our members within it to thrive but what sets us apart? You’d have to ask our members :)

The four co-founders of Works Social are all Nottingham born and bred and love the history surrounding the Lace Market area, add to that it’s sought after central CQ location and the building’s Grade II listed unique style - when the opportunity came up, it seemed the perfect space for our vision to come alive. It’s always been important to us to remember the heritage of the building and its industrious past as an old Lace Works, so much so that one of our co-founders has designed and installed a feature mural in our ground floor communal area depicting the female lace workers that would have once worked there getting to grips with the modern technology we use now in our signature yellow, black and grey!
First and foremost we want to create a sense of community and belonging. Working for yourself or in a small team has countless benefits but often the isolation of working alone or remotely can get you down. Through sharing space, resources and skills we want to encourage a culture that thrives on the generosity and camaraderie of its members and one that leads to many otherwise untapped collaborations or friendships. We will be holding a variety of workshops, micro-networking and social events for members to come together in our flexible ground floor event space and as part of their annual membership, members can use the space to host their annual office party - hopefully with a few new friends on their guest list ;)
We will officially be celebrating opening our doors on June 20th to coincide with National Freelancers Day and if people are interested in coming to have an informal chat and look around to see if Works Social works for them, they can book on to an opening evening, here
Oh yes! We’re full of ideas :) Watch this space for our next venture across town aimed at businesses scaling up!
