CVAN EM is the Contemporary Visual Arts Network for the East Midlands. Our mission is to strengthen and develop the contemporary visual arts sector in the region, working to safeguard the future of artists and our sector as a whole. We are a catalyst for new ways of supporting arts practice, regional connectivity and audience engagement. We contribute to a flourishing visual arts habitat, from making to presenting, where artists, organisations and audiences prosper.
We deliver programmes of activity that are specific to regional needs, creating opportunities for artists and curators and bringing visibility to activity produced and presented regionally, thus contributing to national sector development. This is often informed by research and consultation with artists and arts organisations about what their needs are.
Operational since 2008, CVAN EM is part of the national Contemporary Visual Arts Network, established to support Arts Council England’s 2006 visual arts strategy. The purpose of the overall network is to connect people working in the visual arts with each other, to share information, ideas and resources. We are dedicated to working together to realise a stronger visual arts for the benefit of artists, arts organisations and audiences, present and future.
