“What makes you who you are, Charlie? A name? An address? A random collection of experiences, a few memories? … Charlie Hunt is nothing more than a collection of pieces of paper.”
Marketing executive Charlie is suffering from the pressures of his stressful lifestyle: insomnia, drink and drug abuse, panic attacks, mounting debts, and the recent death of his mother. When he is caught trying to make some money disappear, Charlie pulls a disappearing act of his own – running from the office, leaving the city, abandoning his life and his identity.
Before long he finds himself on a nightmarish journey through lost property offices, records offices, seafronts, graveyards and morgues – the places where the detritus of society, the unnamed and unclaimed, are lost and found.
Fin Kennedy’s 2005 play was inspired by his research into missing persons cases.
This amateur production appears by arrangement with Nick Hern books.
