Unlocking The Stories You Want To Tell – Working With Plot, Character and Personal Experience

Join published author and creative writing tutor, Cathy Lesurf on a 3-session course, where we’ll be taking an in-depth look at what makes a satisfying narrative; why we continually return to certain stories and storylines; and what it really means to ‘write what you know.’

Participants will be encouraged to think about plot, character and the psychological significance of the stories we construct about ourselves and the world.

The sessions will be divided into 30 minutes of input, 30 minutes of writing, and 30 minutes of discussion time.

You will…
- Understand the significance of narrative
- Explore the psychological significance of fairy stories, myths and basic plots
- Develop skills in depicting sensory and feeling experience
- Think about and develop authentic characters
- Practise free writing and the ability to share work
 

About Cathy Lesurf
Cathy Lesurf is a published children’s author (Orchard Books) and an award-winning radio scriptwriter of ‘No Way Back’ for the BBC. She’s a writer of music and lyrics for broadcast, live performance and recording, including Albion Band Christmas Show. She was a tutor in Creative Writing for the University of Nottingham and WEA, and in Media Production for the University of Lincolnshire.

She was the director and community project coordinator for World in 1 County Festival and her social inclusion and genocide prevention work includes Refuge project for Beth Shalom, and original drama ‘The Mobius Twist’ for first National Holocaust Memorial Day.

Her Touring work includes ‘Teeth Like Razors’ (Brecht/Weil/Eisler, dramaturge Michael Wilson) and she’s the Artistic Director of Nottingham Peacebuilders. She’s also a counsellor/psychotherapist and was trained at the University of Leicester and Leicester Counselling Centre. Cathy is the commissioning editor of a Nottingham Peacebuilders’ poetry anthology, ‘Small Acts of Kindness’ (2017)
