For Halloween 2018, award winning Nottingham based photographer David Severn is launching a limited edition photobook of his series taken during Whitby Goth Weekend published by Nottingham independent art publishers Beam Editions. Designed by Joff+Ollie and including a new essay by Wayne Burrows, the book is a whimsical exploration of the Gothic seaside tradition.
Join us in celebrating the launch of this new publication with a Gothic soirée in the Ottar CafeBar at Nottingham Contemporary featuring:
‘Spooky DJ sets’:
Writer and artist Wayne Burrows and Joff Casciani (Truth &. Lies) take to the decks for gothic exotica disco.
Pop Up Tintype Photography Studio:
A rare chance to have your portrait taken by Jim Grainger, a master in the ‘wet plate collodion process. This is a very special process and one of the oldest in photography that produces pearlescent print on to a metal sheet.
Ottar will be serving up seasonal food and
cocktails with a dark twist like “The Twisted Weekender”, a wickedly dark vodka martini made with a mix of black and fig vodkas, vermouth and creme de cassis.
Fancy dress encouraged!
