GUEST SPEAKER : Ann Priest, International Dean (visiting) for Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology
"Think like a fashion designer, and be an activist"
We are in times of change. Fashion thrives on change. Fashion is changing in its broadest sense of the word. This is not a talk about fashion. I will outline what I mean by thinking like a fashion designer, and use that as a basis to refer to what are some of the changes that we should be taking note of and that might impact on our personal and professional lives.
Ann is currently visiting International Dean for Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology where she advises senior management on institutional development, internationalisation and curriculum development. Ann currently spends 3 months a year in Beijing. Ann is also a Trustee of Nottingham Contemporary, a Trustee of Broadway Media, and of Nottingham Young Creatives. She is also a member of the Court of Governors of Glasgow Caledonian University and a Director of Glasgow Caledonian New York College.
Ann started her working life designing and cutting patterns for Manchester raincoats, working in a range of design and product development roles in high street fashion including Wallis and Mulberry. She then moved to higher education including 13 years as Dean of Fashion Management and Promotion at London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London, and just under 10 years at Nottingham Trent University as Dean of Art and Design then Pro-Vice Chancellor and Head of College of Art, Design and the Built Environment. Ann has worked internationally in fashion and higher education including extended periods in India, Turkey and China.
There will also be a portfolio review session run by Harriet Kjellman, 6.2 Design Company where you can grab some invaluable time 1:1 with a design expert.
