It's all lights, camera and action in the CQ! You'll never be able to walk around a corner and not see someone filming or taking pictures.
Are you doing something exciting with TV and film in the Creative Quarter? We'd like to share what you're doing on this page, so we'd welcome your contribution...
BFI Film Hub Midlands
Film Hub Midlands is a partnership between Broadway, Nottingham and Flatpack Projects in Birmingham. Broadway is one of the UK’s leading independent cinemas. Flatpack Projects run the Flatpack Film Festival, which takes over venues across Birmingham every spring, as well as year-round events and programmes.
The BFI Film Hub is the driving force behind film culture in the Midlands; by providing funding and training, they aim to help more people in the region watch, show, and make films.
Short Film Funding
The Short Film funding programme supports projects with directors based in England and is run in partnership with the BFI NETWORK Talent Executives who work with filmmakers on the delivery of funded projects.
This fund is for fiction shorts, in both live action and animation. We want to support short films that:

Early Development Funding
The Early Development funding programme supports projects with writers based in England. If you’re a new writer with an exciting, bold idea – particularly if you’ve not yet teamed up with a producer – this is the fund for you.
‘New writers’ are people who have not yet have written a feature film script that has been produced and distributed. This fund is also for producers and directors working with new writers.
This fund is the first step in the BFI’s development support for live-action and animated fiction projects from new writers. It supports people at the very beginning of their development process to produce an initial treatment and related materials.

Pitch Pots, New Releases, and the BFI FAN network
BFI FAN has been supporting new film releases since 2016. The aim is to better connect the worlds of distribution and exhibition, and ensure that important independent releases find a place in cinemas, and connect with audiences across the UK. Support for exhibitors screening FAN-supported New Release titles is focused on reaching young people, aged 16-30.
BFI Midlands also supports Pitch Pots which are available to help support risks and trying something new. Whether you are new to film exhibition and want to put on your first screening or an established cinema or community screen who wants to trial a new type of programming, we want to help audiences in the Midlands engage with the widest range of film in as many places as possible.
This fund is open to exhibitors throughout the year. It will close once the available funds have been awarded.
